Description
Eugene Kennington was a counselor in the Guidance Department at Intermountain Indian School where he supervised a student dormitory with five aides, known as dorm mothers, who made sure student got up in time for school. They took care of students' health needs, getting them to a campus doctor when necessary. There were 70 to 80 students in a dorm and a total of 28 dorms on campus. They housed up to 3,000 students. Kennington later worked with Student Enterprise where students had part-time jobs in campus shops, including gift and hamburger shops and in the movie theater. Jobs such as these provided spending money for the Indian students.
