Description
Pat Smith of the San Juan Pueblo Tribe of New Mexico worked at Intermountain Indian School for 30 years. She forst worked in the kitchen serving meals to students and cleaning up afterward. Later she worked in a girls\\' dormitoary where she supervised the girls\\' chores and homework, helped them get to breakfast and then to school on time each day. She was responsible for 80 to 90 girls at one time and basically became their mother away from home. She also worked in the Solo-Parent Program for unwed pregnant teens. After their babies were born, she helped them learn to care for their babies as they continued their schooling.
